Washington running back Salvon Ahmed announced Friday that he is skipping his senior season and entering the NFL draft.

The speedy Ahmed rushed for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, his first as a starter. Last spring, he was timed in 4.32 seconds while running the 40-yard dash.

Ahmed thanked teammates, fans and coaches, including recently retired head coach Chris Petersen in his announcement posted on Twitter.

“Coach Pete, I feel honored to have had the opportunity to be coached by you. Not only did you make sure we were all becoming the best football players we could possibly be but also the best men we could be as well,” Ahmed said.

“With that being said after long hard talks with my family, coaches and close friends, I have decided to declare myself eligible for the 2020 NFL draft.”

Ahmed finished his Washington career with 2,016 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.
