Purdue quarterback Elijah Sindelar underwent surgery to repair a broken clavicle and is out indefinitely, coach Jeff Brohm announced Monday.

Redshirt freshman Jack Plummer is expected to start Saturday’s game at No. 12 Penn State (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) in place of Sindelar, who was injured after being sacked from behind by defensive lineman Tai’yon Devers in a 38-31 loss to Minnesota on Saturday.

Per Brohm, Sindelar will miss “an extended period of time” but stopped short of ruling him out for the rest of the season.

“It’s too early to tell,” Brohm said. “We’ll see how this goes.”

Brohm also said wide receiver Rondale Moore will sit out Saturday’s game against the Nittany Lions with an injured hamstring. Moore, who was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2018, was hurt on the same play that Sindelar was injured.

Brohm lamented the loss of Moore in the team’s return game for Purdue (1-3, 0-1).

“We don’t have that dynamic playmaker as Rondale back there, but we need to be steady in what we do. We need to be smart. We need to get yardage,” Brohm said.
