Drake Maye, a four-star quarterback in the Class of 2021, has flipped his commitment from Alabama to North Carolina.

He announced his change of heart on Friday on social media.

“First off, I’d like to thank Coach Saban and the entire staff for the opportunity to play at The University of Alabama, but after sitting down with my family I have decided to de-commit from Alabama.

“With that being said, I’m looking forward to playing for Coach Brown at The University of North Carolina. … I couldn’t be more excited to become a Tar Heel!”

The 6-foot-5 Maye, who plays at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., is the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the nation, per the 247Sports composite.

He had been committed to Alabama since July 2019, choosing the Crimson Tide over Georgia, Clemson and others.

He’ll become the latest member of the Maye family to wear Tar Heels blue.

His brother, Luke, played basketball for the Tar Heels and graduated in 2019. Their father, Mark, played quarterback at North Carolina in the mid-1980s.
