Virginia Tech suspended defensive end Jaevon Becton on Wednesday and removed his name from the Hokies’ 2020 online roster.

“(He) has been suspended from the program, effective immediately,” read a statement released by the school. “He is subject to the policies set forth in the Virginia Tech Code of Student Conduct. There will be no further comment on the matter.”

The 6-foot-4 Becton played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 2019, registering 12 tackles.

The Virginia Beach native was a three-star recruit in coach Justin Fuente’s 2018 recruiting class, ranked as the No. 17 overall prospect in the state by the 247Sports composite.

Virginia Tech is scheduled to open spring practice on March 21. The Hokies’ fifth season under Fuente will kick off on Sept. 5 against Liberty in Blacksburg, Va.
